Covid Relief Program
When Covid 19 closed schools and businesses, leaving our community and others across our nation in disarray, Outreach Navarre pivoted to step into action.
Soon thereafter, the distribution of carefully curated bags of groceries began to help those meeting qualifications criteria set by grant funding guidelines. Distribution locations were set, and partnerships expanded as we leaped into action to help families who were left wounded by job loss.
Funding provided by United Way of West Florida and Gulf Power met the funding needs of this program as menus were crafted including recipes to use the ingredients in each bag. Family sizes were taken into consideration and each week's contents were scaled to make sure that families could take a large portion of their groceries off their list of that week's worries. Through the cooperation of City Produce in Fort Walton, and use of a local cafeteria's walk-in refrigerator, each family received a box of 25 pounds of produce each week to supplement the bags provided by Outreach Navarre. We Care, a program of Navarre United Methodist Church, aided with distribution and bagging as our usual locations were closed.
With over $13,000 in funding from the grant, this program aided many families across our community for almost 7 months. This program and its funding distributed its final bags on December 15, 2020.
